Helping you through the insurance process
The insurance claims process can be daunting and confusing. We are experienced at dealing with insurance providers and adjusters. Let us take the burden off of you when its time for a claim. Here is a basic overview of the claims process:
It is important to know that you are NOT required to acquire 3 estimates as is often suggested by insurance providers. You are entitled to use the contractor of YOUR choosing and obtain as few or as many estimates as you choose. When you have had storm activity, be it wind or hail, please call us and we can take a preliminary look to determine if a claim may be feasible. We are not in the business of trying to sell a roof or initiate a claim unless it is legitimately warranted. If damage is evident, we will have you call and initiate a claim and an adjuster will be scheduled. Let us know when this is and we will meet with the adjuster as an advocate for you. Building the scope of work. Let's face it, even though an insurance provider is in place to protect your investment, they are also in the business of saving as much money as possible by tempering the extent of the claim. Nine out of ten claims have items and or scopes of work that are either overlooked or never included in the initial claim. This is where it is vital for us as your advocate to be sure that insurance is covering and paying for everything they should be. This is also why it is CRUCIAL to share your claim with us if you have already been issued one. We will go through it item by item, and ensure its accuracy and fairness. Essentially, because most of the time the owner only has to pay the deductible, this allows us as your contractor to be paid fairly for a quality job. If you choose a contractor based solely on price all you are achieving is saving the insurance provider money and short-changing yourself on a quality roof project! The Project. Once the claim has been approved, the agreement signed, and the shingle selection made, your project will be scheduled and built. We can provide a pre-project info sheet before starting. Funding. Often but not always, insurance will issue what’s called an ACV check or “Actual cash value”. This is basically the claim amount less depreciation and your deductible. The depreciation will be issued after completion, and the deductible paid by you as part of the job estimate. Del Sol asks for no money until your project is done. You may have to have your mortgagee endorse any checks, and this can take time, so we ask that you initiate this process as soon as you receive funds. Supplement(s). Even after a claim amount has been established, there are items that we as the contractor are entitled to receive payment for that are usually not on the original claim. This can be for a permit fee, unforeseen extra work, or damage and sometimes O&P (Overhead & Profit) for supervising a job. These supplements can be in the hundreds or even thousands of dollars. These funds will be paid in the name of the homeowner but is additional payment added to the contractor's project estimate. You as the homeowner are not in any way penalized by additional supplemental funding on a claim. Deductible. As the homeowner you are liable and obligated to pay your deductibles on claims. Contractors are not to waive, pay, or discount the deductible as has been too often practiced with fly-by-night and storm chasing companies, however, we will always strive to help a homeowner minimize the out-of-pocket burden. Final payment. Once your project is complete and we have left your home in the same condition as before we started, payment in full is then due. We understand you may still be waiting for a final claim or supplement check but we ask that you complete payment as soon as you receive it. It is important to know that our entitlement of payment does NOT hinge on completion of municipal inspection as sometimes inspections are delayed within municipalities. Your project will pass and this is what your warranty is in place for. Warranty and completion package is then issued. At any time during your ownership of your home when you have an issue, concern, or question about your roof we are available and responsive to your needs. |
